Shareholder's rights directive

The shareholder's rights directive is an important piece of the Capital Markets Union. BusinessEurope is supportive of the objectives behind the current revision. Shareholder identification and increased transparency are important contributions to ensure shareholders are more engaged in the achievement of companies' long-term goals.

However, the proposal should avoid blurring the roles and competences between the board and the shareholders, especially in the areas of remuneration and related party transactions. This revision is also not the right place to introduce legislation in areas (such as tax transparency) which are not related to corporate governance.
