Unitary Patent agreement finally entered into force

Intellectual property is a key element of the EU's industrial policy to support innovation and achieve the objectives of the digital and climate twin transitions.

European businesses* welcome the long-awaited entry into force of the Protocol of Provisional Application of the Unitary Patent Convention. With this breakthrough companies will have access to a simpler and harmonised European system to grant patents. This will bring significant benefits to our businesses through increased legal certainty, cost-effectiveness, promotion of research and innovation and global competitiveness.
