Responsible trading of conflict minerals

Commenting on today’s EU initiative on a responsible trading strategy for minerals from conflict zones BUSINESSEUROPE Director General Markus J. Beyrer said: “European businesses recognise their part of responsibility in maintaining conflict-free supply chains while contributing to viable solutions to address the problem. Conflicts are complex and require the engagement of multiple stakeholders, including governments, private sector and the civil society, especially in the resource-holding countries. We have to make sure that the EU initiative constitutes a positive step to improve the situation on the ground and at the same time does not harm the competitiveness of European companies. BUSINESSEUROPE will now assess the proposals and will constructively participate in the public debate”.
