ISDS and TTIP: threat or opportunity? – EPC policy dialogue

On June 3rd 2014 Luisa Santos, Director for International Relations, spoke at an event organised by the European Policy Centre on investor-state dispute settlement and TTIP. She emphasised that BusinessEurope is in favour of reaching a deep and comprehensive trade agreement with the US. This agreement should contain a strong investment protection chapter, including a balanced and modern ISDS mechanism. Mrs Santos also highlighted that ISDS is merely a mechanism to re-affirm states’ obligations under public international law and does not deprive states of their right to regulate, as long as these measures comply with international obligations.
