Europe needs a cost-effective energy security strategy

Today, the European Commission published a European Energy Security Strategy. Beyrer said: “The situation in Ukraine is a wake-up call for a strong European energy security strategy. The European Commission stepwise approach rightly pushes for an increase and diversification of energy sources both domestically and externally. Europe must keep all options open, including potentially highly advantageous unconventional energy sources such as shale gas. A stronger coordination between national energy policies will also ensure the proper functioning of the future interconnected energy market. Industry stresses the need to focus on cost-effective implementation of the strategy because energy prices in the EU are already impacting our competitiveness heavily.”
