2014 country-specific recommendations send the right reform messages

Following the release by the Commission of its 2014 country-specific reform recommendations, BUSINESSEUROPE Director General Markus J. Beyrer commented: "The Commission has sent the right message about the need for Europe to continue and focus on undertaking fiscal consolidation accompanied by growth-enhancing structural reforms. We particularly support the Commission’s call for a number of states to improve the efficiency of their public expenditure to allow a reduction in very high levels of labour taxation. As well as supporting the Commission recommendations in the Council, Member States urgently need to raise their game regarding reform implementation."
