Competitiveness must be at the heart of the EU budget.

The EU budget can be a powerful proven force for the development of the EU economy, by supporting innovation, increasing physical and digital connectivity and helping the catch up of many of its less-well off regions, notably via its regional funds.

However, to maximize the gains from the EU budget and allow it to be a positive, future-oriented tool that works for the whole EU, lessons must be learned from the current budget cycle and incorporated into the next one.
