BusinessEurope’s engagement in the B7 and B20

BusinessEurope actively participates in the B7 and B20 platforms – the business pillars of the G7 and G20—which were established in 2007 and 2010, respectively. These platforms bring together leading business organisations from G7 and G20 countries to help shaping global economic policies. In this respect, BusinessEurope is representing businesses from the EU.

In today’s increasingly challenging global environment, the B7 and the B20 play a crucial role in bringing businesses together, speaking in one voice and developing positions and actionable recommendations for governments. Their work spans a wide range of critical topics, ranging from trade and investment to climate and environment, and from finance to employment and skills.

Shaping global economic policies

These discussions are organised within relevant Taskforces, culminating with high-level Summits where business leaders and governments engage in dialogue that shapes policymaking globally. For example, the B7 and the B20 were instrumental in guiding governments’ efforts to develop holistic and coordinated approach to the COVID19 pandemic, from taking measures to increase the supply chain resilience to advancing research and innovation in the area of health.

The B7 and B20 operate in annual cycles, with leadership rotating in line with the G7 and G20 presidencies. In 2025, the B7 is chaired by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, aligning with Canada’s G7 Presidency. The overarching theme is “Bolstering Economic Security and Resiliency.” The B20 is chaired by Business Unity South Africa (BUSA), as South Africa leads the G20. This year’s theme is “Inclusive Growth and Prosperity through Global Cooperation.

Through its engagement in these influential platforms, BusinessEurope continues to shape international economic policies and advocate for a business-friendly, resilient, and sustainable global economy.
