Education, training and skills

Education and training systems must be aligned with the needs of the labour market to equip workers with relevant skills. This ensures a seamless transition from education to employment and supports lifelong learning.

Key Actions:

  • BusinessEurope advocates for placing labour market needs at the centre of education and training by strengthening partnerships between education and training providers and employers. This includes the timely and effective updating of curricula.
  • Promoting work-based learning and the enhancement of dual-learning elements in existing education and training systems, particularly through apprenticeships, to ensure young people acquire relevant skills. It is also important to strengthen the role of apprenticeships in up-skilling and re-skilling adult workers.
  • Encouraging the development of training programmes that align with employer needs, ensuring better preparedness for the workforce of tomorrow. It is important that EU level financial support through the ESF+ is effectively used to support employers in providing training to their workers.
  • Fostering an entrepreneurial mindset and a culture of lifelong learning.
