Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is a major contributor to the EU’s growth and resilience. It contributes to the creation of jobs and supports innovation, playing a key role in achieving the objectives of the EU’s digital and green transition.
The EU remains the world’s top source and destination for FDI, with outbound investments amounting to €9,382 billion and inbound investments to €7,715 billion by the end of 2022 (source: DG TRADE). In this respect, ensuring an open and conducive environment for investments in the EU is critical. At the same time, a clear and consistent EU investment policy should also encompass a strong international dimension. This is necessary to support EU investments abroad and BusinessEurope will continue to advocate for ambitious market access and protection provisions in the EU’s trade agreements.
