BusinessEurope reacts to Commission proposal on CBAM export adjustment

Reacting to the European Commission’s proposal on CBAM export adjustment, BusinessEurope Director General Markus J. Beyrer said: “CBAM, as a first-of-its-kind measure, is untested and still incomplete in its design. Addressing the export challenges for the CBAM sectors in a WTO-compatible way is absolutely critical.”

“We appreciate the Commission's efforts to respond to concerns raised by industry. We would have preferred a solution which maintains full free allocations for the part of the production destined for exports, but we will constructively engage in the design of the measure and carefully examine the final proposal. It is crucial that an effective measure is adopted and implemented as a matter of urgency.”
