Mission to Brazil: Strengthening the EU-Mercosur partnership
This week, our Director General Markus J. Beyrer, together with Deputy Director General Luisa Santos and Deputy Director Eleonora Catella, travelled to Brazil to engage with policymakers and key stakeholders on the next chapter of EU-Brazil relations.
Brazil is the EU's most important trading partner in Latin America, while the EU is Brazil's second-largest trading partner. This longstanding partnership has entered a new era with the conclusion of the EU-Mercosur Agreement after more than 25 years of negotiations.
At this pivotal moment, the mission aimed to deepen engagement with Brazilian stakeholders, promote a shared understanding of the agreement's benefits, and ensure companies make good use of the improved market access conditions.
The delegation met Ambassador Philip Fox-Drummond Gough, Secretary for Economic and Financial Affairs at Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Tatiana Prazeres, Secretary of Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade. They also held discussions with representatives of the Brazilian business community and organisations connecting European and Brazilian companies, exchanging views on the opportunities and practical implications of the EU-Mercosur Agreement.
We look forward to continuing our close cooperation and turning this historic agreement into tangible opportunities for businesses on both sides of the Atlantic.
