TRIPs

Innovation and intellectual property (IP) are becoming more and more global. This raises new challenges for policy-makers, IP offices and companies around the world. IP as a facilitator to technology transfer plays an increasingly important role in addressing major issues – from the increased need for healthcare to developing clean energy and to improving the global food chain. For BusinessEurope, IP is part of the solution for these societal challenges.

In recent years, the EU has stepped up its efforts to tackle IP enforcement challenges and IP expropriation and non-market restrictions in third countries to safeguard the TRIPs (trade-related intellectual property rights) agreement, which sets the global benchmark for IP protection.

BusinessEurope endorses this strategy and calls for improved cooperation at global level.
