TTIP will foster sustainability through trade

We believe the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) offers an opportunity for the EU and the USA to foster sustainability through trade and to go beyond any other free-trade agreement concluded by either party with regard to sustainability objectives. While signatories should be free to define policies and measures adjusted to labour and environmental standards they deem appropriate, the sustainability chapter should encourage effective domestic implementation at central and sub-central level of core ILO conventions and environmental agreements that have been ratified by the USA or individual EU member states. In view of the ongoing TTIP negotiations, BusinessEurope recently adopted a position paper on the sustainability chapter.
