EP hearing on trade and economic relations with the US

On October 14th 2014, Reinhard Quick, Chairman of BusinessEurope’s working group on free-trade agreements, spoke at a hearing organised by the International Trade Committee of the European Parliament, entitled “Trade and Economic Relations with the United States - the regulatory part in the TTIP negotiations”. Mr Quick stressed that regulatory cooperation, while fully respecting the EU and the US regulatory autonomy, should address existing regulatory barriers and prevent the emergence of future regulatory divergences. Mutual recognition will be possible in cases where equivalent effectiveness is assessed. However, this may not be desirable or possible in some areas, as there is no one-size-fits-all solution: assessments must be done on a case-by-case basis.
