Intellectual property
BUSINESSEUROPE promotes policies that boost Europe’s innovation capacity by strengthening IP protection in terms of quality, costs, legal certainty and enforcement.
In the area of intellectual property, BUSINESSEUROPE’s priorities are :
- Rapid adoption of an EU Patent and a common European patent court system.
- International cooperation to harmonise patent formalities and proceedings in the main patent regions, in order to reduce costs, time pendency and boost legal certainty for users.
- Streamlining of trademark systems in Europe.
- Support of all initiatives to fight against counterfeiting and piracy, including European Observatory on counterfeiting and conclusion of the ACTA negotiations.
- Addressing growing trend towards lowering intellectual property standards in a wide range of technology areas, including the climate change debate.
