On 28 October, BUSINESSEUROPE organised a major conference to discuss best ways to reconcile climate protection and economic growth, ahead of the
UN Climate Change conference in Copenhagen in December. The conference, which attracted 450 participants, was also an opportunity for
BUSINESSEUROPE to present its “Copenhagen scorecard” – what European business wants to see in an international agreement on climate change.
After introductory remarks by Mario Amano, OECD Deputy Secretary-General, participants took part in panel sessions with topics ranging from
climate and energy policies around the world to visions for a low-carbon future, and from “green recovery” to expectations from Copenhagen.
For these discussions, CEOs and senior executives of European companies, European Commission and State representatives were joined by
senior policy-makers, business representatives, academics and NGOs from the EU as well as from international players like the USA, Japan and Australia.
After five fruitful panel discussions, Director General Philippe de Buck presented BUSINESSEUROPE’s messages to José Manuel Barroso
in view of the international climate summit in Copenhagen. He then left the floor to the Commission’s President for a closing
keynote address on climate change challenges in the new political cycle.
BUSINESSEUROPE warmly thanks the speakers, moderators, sponsors, partners and participants for a successful event.
